Getting what you pay for…
Videomaker.com’s blog published an article that was an eye-opener for me in terms of the differences in understanding that may exist between the videographer and the customer. Especially telling were the comments made by the videographers with similar experiences!
Determining fair prices for creative work in the video editing business is extremely challenging, because there is a potentially huge range of quality that can come out of the process. I try to avoid reducing this to an hourly rate, because it can lure you into the trap of using time as your standard, rather than the quality of the product. While there are basic quality standards that will be observed in TAZM Pictures regardless, when – and if – inspiration will strike can be difficult to predict. Sometimes, projects that take longer have their own rewards in terms of creative satisfaction. But because it’s so difficult to reliably predict the number of hours a project will require, I don’t list prices on this web site. As a customer, I would certainly like to know–ballpark–what something’s going to cost. Unfortunately, every project is different. If you send an email and we can work out what you’re looking for, I’ll make you an estimate and we’ll stick to it; and if you don’t think the product you receive is worth the price, you’ll pay nothing.
I encourage others to take a shot at editing their own videos – I personally found it to be a very rewarding creative outlet, for years before I made any attempt to offer the service to others, and have learned so much – and still have a lot to learn! I’m always happy to compare notes, and if you just want it done for you, I’m happiest doing that of course! Best of luck in your video endeavors.
