Stranger No. 83
This portrait is a bit different than most – but it’s good to have a bit of variety. Â It’s taken with a GoPro camera mounted to a DJI Phantom 2 Quadcopter sitting on the ground. Â Siva, pictured here, had been following me around with interest as I swooped the quadcopter all around his village lake/quarry,…

Stranger No. 82
I was finishing up a photowalk when I spotted this small shop, and on the chair behind this fellow, another guy was sitting staring stoically to the left. It was him I approached for a photo, and in response he jumped up and hid behind the doorway, refusing to be photographed. This guy, named Murali,…

Stranger No. 79
We met this fellow at Elliot Beach, close to our home in Chennai. He was just watching the ocean when I asked for his photo: After I snapped his picture with an old film camera (not that old – a 90’s era Ricoh) he followed us around from a distance as we spent the next…

Apparently cutting these things into portions so that they can be eaten is quite a labor-intensive operation that takes some practice –…

Stranger No. 72
I’m not exactly sure which photo is better – they both have some flaws. The one has a greenish glow on the face which is caused by the reflection from the flowers seen in the second photo; and the flowers in both photos seem distracting. Anyway, this is Sovan Babu. He’s got one arm and…

Stranger No. 71
Like many of the people I’ve photographed in India, this sweet lime seller in the fruit market was all smiles until he was posing for his picture. Because getting your picture taken is serious business! His name is Subranyam, and he is joined in this second photo by a friend, whose name I did not…

Stranger No. 70
This is Muthukumar, whose moustache caught my attention. Â He was at the flower market in Koyambedu, in Chennai. Â After I snapped his photograph, his friends were joking that he was the “king of Koyambedu”. Â It must have been some kind of inside joke, I’m not sure!

Stranger No. 69
I wish I could remember his name. This guy was selling fruit in the market and I was so impressed by the sheer spotless whiteness of his clothes and the twinkle in his eye. Unlike most of the others in the market, he wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about being photographed – merely tolerant.
