{"id":1742,"date":"2013-06-18T10:24:01","date_gmt":"2013-06-18T09:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=1742"},"modified":"2014-04-14T07:39:42","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T06:39:42","slug":"redscale-photography-first-attempts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=1742","title":{"rendered":"Redscale Photography &#8211; First Attempts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being new to film photography, I had never heard of &#8220;redscale photography&#8221; until I spotted this on on Flickr and had to know how he had gotten this effect:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"20130504_018 by k_dellaquila, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/kdellaquila\/8725323672\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20130504_018\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/flickr-migration\/8725323672_af6be461b5_z.jpg?resize=427%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wanting to try it out on my own, I did a bit of research and discovered that the &#8220;redscale film&#8221; being offered by some vendors is really nothing other than ordinary film, run through the camera backward &#8211; i.e. so the light goes through the film before it hits the emulsion. \u00a0So I went down to the garage (the darkest room at my house but from the film results maybe not quite dark enough) and wound a roll of 35mm film backward into a discarded roll. (Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/fotogogo.blogspot.com\/2009\/10\/diy-redscale-film.html\" target=\"_blank\">how I made my own redscale film<\/a>) \u00a0Then I loaded it into an old Ricoh Kr-5 and started shooting. When I got my film back, a number of the photos in the middle and beginning of the roll were ruined (overexposed), but I think that was due to errors in the process of reversing the film.<\/p>\n<p>What I learned from the photos that did turn out is that a bit of underexposure (or smaller aperture) increases the redscale effect.
