{"id":3108,"date":"2014-06-12T17:56:39","date_gmt":"2014-06-12T16:56:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3108"},"modified":"2025-10-16T15:00:31","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T14:00:31","slug":"indian-portraits-from-the-1950s-and-1960s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3108","title":{"rendered":"Indian Portraits from the 1950s and 1960s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Between Chennai and Pondicherry is an area with an especially high proliferation of &#8220;junk stores. \u00a0I suppose the owners would prefer we&#8217;d call them antique shops &#8211; but there actually aren&#8217;t that many actual antiques, just lots of oddities and strange treasures, many of which are made to look old.<\/p>\n<p>In the back of one of these shops, the owner has stacked hundreds of old photographs. \u00a0Most of them are marked or stamped as having come from a photography shop in Madurai, not too far from here, and there is the occasional photo with a date identifying it from the late 1950s or early 1960s. \u00a0I thought they were fascinating to go through, and thought you might enjoy seeing some of them too. \u00a0I&#8217;ve scanned them with the attached mattes partially showing so you can see the full effect.<\/p>\n<p>This is a proud bicycle owner.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Vintage Photos from Madurai by Tom Brouns, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/14405278822\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/14405278822_d0a4473b6d_z.jpg?resize=487%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Vintage Photos from Madurai\" width=\"487\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My Five Sons.
