{"id":3504,"date":"2015-02-12T17:06:07","date_gmt":"2015-02-12T16:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3504"},"modified":"2025-10-16T14:50:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T13:50:59","slug":"found-film-the-alberts-visit-quebec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3504","title":{"rendered":"Found Film:  The Alberts visit Quebec"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the last few\u00a0months, I have been sharing photos believed to have been taken by Raymond Albert\u00a0in the late 1940s thru the mid-1950s. \u00a0This latest post\u00a0features photos from a trip the family took to Quebec, circa 1955.<\/p>\n<p>On this trip, they visit a number of different cultural and\/or religious sites. \u00a0I was able to identify a few of them. \u00a0If you&#8217;ve been to Quebec, I welcome help on the rest!<\/p>\n<p>To start out, here&#8217;s a picture of the &#8220;Pont du Quebec&#8221; (Quebec Bridge), which spans the St. Lawrence River. \u00a0It was started in 1903 and collapsed twice at the cost of 88 lives, and took 30 years to complete. \u00a0It is now a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historicplaces.ca\/en\/rep-reg\/place-lieu.aspx?id=13400\" target=\"_blank\">National Historic Site.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18 by Tom Brouns, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/16450437385\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/16450437385_b5461a256e_z.jpg?resize=640%2C399&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18\" width=\"640\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As far as I know, Raymond Albert only had one daughter &#8211; the other girls are his cousins, who consistently appear together in almost every roll in this collection. I believe it is facing the roundabout directly below. Googling the motto on the grass didn&#8217;t help &#8211; it&#8217;s most likely &#8220;de bon vouloir servir le roy,&#8221; but that brings up a number of different things other than a roundabout. On the backside, it says &#8220;Quebec.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18 by Tom Brouns, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/16262853068\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/16262853068_531ba43736_z.jpg?resize=640%2C423&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18\" width=\"640\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18 by Tom Brouns, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/15830370383\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/15830370383_a9bce140cd_z.jpg?resize=640%2C408&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18\" width=\"640\" height=\"408\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the photo below, the family is visiting the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Basilica_of_Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupr%C3%A9\" target=\"_blank\">Basilica of St Anne de Beaupre<\/a>, about 30 kilometers east of Quebec and an important site for Catholics. \u00a0Near the Basilica is a walkway leading up a hillside with the <a href=\"http:\/\/stephentravels.com\/come-inside\/miracles-in-quebec\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;14 Stations of the Cross.&#8221;<\/a> \u00a0This statue is the second in the walk, depicting Jesus receiving his cross. \u00a0A video showing all 14 stations can be seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=A54k5LevsDc\" target=\"_blank\">here.<\/a>\u00a0 It took me some time to identify the correct &#8220;station&#8221; because in the photo below, there is an additional figure which does not appear to exist in the video (start at the 30 second mark). \u00a0I&#8217;d be curious for any explanation. \u00a0Was the figure on the extreme left removed since the mid-1950s for some reason?<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18 by Tom Brouns, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/16448699871\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/16448699871_a01cca3ec1_z.jpg?resize=640%2C397&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18\" width=\"640\" height=\"397\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is also a double (or is it triple?) exposure on the roll, which I was able to partially identify as a statue of Samuel de Champlain.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18 by Tom Brouns, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/16449498902\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/16449498902_302e16ac54_z.jpg?resize=640%2C419&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18\" width=\"640\" height=\"419\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, I would have expected the family to snap a few photos at the Citadelle. I thought that might be the photo below, but I am unable to reconcile the wall in the background with any other photos I can find of the Citadelle. There are, however, a number of these cannons there\u00a0as shown in <a href=\"http:\/\/cannons.yolasite.com\/blog\/walker-cannon-at-la-citadelle-quebec-canada\" target=\"_blank\">this blog.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18 by Tom Brouns, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/16264194399\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/16264194399_91939f9264_z.jpg?resize=640%2C419&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Raymond Albert's Photos - roll 18\" width=\"640\" height=\"419\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For fun I&#8217;ll end with a couple of photos that seem to be out of place on this roll. I like them both, especially the last one.
