{"id":3814,"date":"2016-01-25T05:54:16","date_gmt":"2016-01-25T04:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3814"},"modified":"2025-10-16T14:46:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T13:46:38","slug":"testing-the-minolta-sr-t-101","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3814","title":{"rendered":"Testing the Minolta SR-T-101"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Awhile back, I <a href=\"https:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3630\" target=\"_blank\">posted about the Petri 7S<\/a>, \u00a0one of two cameras my mother-in-law had passed along to me. \u00a0This post is on the other camera, a Minolta SR-T-101. \u00a0This Minolta is an SLR that first appeared on the market in 1966 and continued to be manufactured until 1975. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/camerapedia.wikia.com\/wiki\/Minolta_SR-T_101\" target=\"_blank\">From this website<\/a> you can figure out more specifically when yours was made. \u00a0Unfortunately, as I write this post, my camera is unavailable to examine in detail, so your guess is as good as mine!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Minolta SRT101\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/24513317301\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/24513317301_f3a46d8680_z.jpg?resize=640%2C425&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Minolta SRT101\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>These cameras appear to have either been pretty popular, as I often see them sitting on the shelf in old camera shops. \u00a0I tend to over-rely on the light meters on cameras of this era, which is a mistake because they tend to wear out at unpredictable rates. \u00a0So the pictures I took tend to be grainy and a bit underexposed.<\/p>\n<p>And no, we&#8217;re not back in India. \u00a0These are photos I developed and scanned before we left, and they have been sitting on my hard drive. \u00a0The camera is half a century old, so what&#8217;s a few extra months for these photos?<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bicycle\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/23968755963\/in\/album-72157661580801354\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/23968755963_4429b75513_z.jpg?resize=640%2C411&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Bicycle\" width=\"640\" height=\"411\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This is my favorite photo in the bunch! \u00a0A bicycle in front of a wall in India always makes for a good photo. \u00a0On this particular day, we were walking around southern Chennai, up and down a hill near the city&#8217;s airport. \u00a0In fact, I was carrying both of the cameras my mother-in-law had given me &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/?p=3737\" target=\"_blank\">the Petri with color film<\/a>, and the Minolta with black-and-white. \u00a0In some of the spots, I snapped a photo with both cameras:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Wooden Duck\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/24487239742\/in\/album-72157661580801354\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/24487239742_b06307207b_z.jpg?resize=407%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Wooden Duck\" width=\"407\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><a title=\"Duck\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/20636313021\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/20636313021_641e873d63_z.jpg?resize=425%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Duck\" width=\"425\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>I also like how the photo below turned out, taken in the interior courtyard of a Hindu temple. Often such temples will be built around a particularly large tree, and different idols and artifacts will be left at the base of such trees.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Temple Yard\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/24487244722\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/24487244722_a0c60666a3_z.jpg?resize=640%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Temple Yard\" width=\"640\" height=\"436\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>The camera also did pretty well with moving scenes and street action, although, like all of the shots, everything was pretty grainy. I like the grainy look and tend to use a less expensive film when I&#8217;m testing out these older cameras, but some of the photos were TOO grainy. <a title=\"Street Scene\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/24595555775\/in\/album-72157661580801354\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/24595555775_8b650668c9_z.jpg?resize=640%2C398&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Street Scene\" width=\"640\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"South India Surgical Co\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tazmpictures\/24300031850\/in\/album-72157661580801354\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tazmpictures.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/24300031850_2464cd1385_z.jpg?resize=640%2C418&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"South India Surgical Co\" width=\"640\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Finally, a few photos from Chennai&#8217;s highest point, overlooking the city from the south.
