You always see mothers and babies, but I think there can be something especially poignant about fathers and babies. ย I passed Saiful (father) and Ain (baby) in a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, and was struck how they were in their own world, enjoying each others’ company without regard to what was going on around them. ย I walked on, and then doubled back to unfortunately ruin the moment by asking if I could take some photos. ย He agreed, and when I asked their names, he said “Ain” means “eyes.”

It’s a shame we can’t make out her eyes better; unfortunately most of the roll was virtually ruined, either because I accidentally opened the camera when it appeared to stop winding, or maybe the developer was just getting old. ย Either way, I thought it would be a shame not to share this despite the lacking photo quality.
