Sachin

At the time, I thought he said his name was “Sachchil”, but it may have been “Sachin.”

In any case, he was operating an odd little gear machine on the ground behind the ship repair yards at Kasimedu fishing harbor in Chennai, that was being used to wind long nylon fibers into a rope. He was surprised that I wanted to snap his photo, but was cool about it.

This photo was taken with an old Kodak Retina 1a, made around 1950-1954.
